ARCHAEOLOGY TOUR IN SALTVILLE

An opportunity to explore a unique facet of Virginia's natural heritage is being offered by the Virginia Museum of Natural History.

The Saltville Research Tour, a self-guided field study, scheduled Monday through July 23, offers visitors a chance to observe excavation work in progress.

The tour begins at the Saltville Museum, where visitors may view the display of unearthed mammoth teeth, skulls and fossils.

Interpreters at the dig site will explain the work as scientists look for new fossils. Children may participate in hands-on activities.

Admission is free.
