APPEAL RULING ALLOWS STUDENT-LED PRAYERS

Student-led prayers will be allowed at this year's Loudoun County high school graduations, a federal appeals court decided Wednesday.

The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals lifted a judge's order blocking formal prayers at today's ceremonies. The court will hear arguments later in a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the prayers.

U.S. District Judge Albert V. Bryan Jr. ruled last week that Loudoun County's plans for benedictions and invocations were improper because they were initiated by school officials, not students.
