OBIT AMOS, WALTER GORDON SR.
AMOS, Walter Gordon Sr. 76, of Rocky Mount, passed away Tuesday, June 22,
1993. His residence was Route 7 in Rocky Mount. Mr. Amos is survived by his
wife of 55 years, Mrs. Mamie Hodges Amos; two sons and daughters-in-law,
Walter G. Jr. and Betty Amos, Rocky Mount, Lewis D. and Donna Amos, Vinton;
also surviving are a grandson, Tommy Amos; a granddaughter, Sherry Montgomery;
a stepgranddaughter, Cara Lovell; his sister, Mrs. Ruby Adams, Martinsville; a
special nephew, Robert Lee Dalton; other survivors include many sisters-in-law
and brothers-in-law; several nieces and nephews; and his special friends,
William and Wilma Bray, Brownsburg, Indiana, all whom he loved dearly. Mr.
Amos was employed by Bald Knob Furniture Company and later retired from the
Lane Company with 43 years of service. Mr. Amos served his country in Europe
during World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion
Post #6 in Rocky Mount. He and his wife Mamie have been members of Henry Fork
Brethren Church for 55 years. Mr. Amos was a wonderful family man who was
loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Funeral services
will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, June 25, 1993, at the Arrington-Bussey
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnny Thompson officiating. Interment will
follow in Hodges/Lynch Family Cemetery, where military honors will be
conducted. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 24, from 7 to 9 p.m.
at the funeral home. Arrangements by Arrington-Bussey Funeral Home, Rocky
