SALEM CITY COUNCIL RAISES SERVICE FEES

There will be no change in Salem property tax rates beginning July 1, but City Council has increased some fees and charges.

The changes include:

Sewer rates: Minimum monthly charge for residential customers increases from $8,25 to $9.25.

Landfill tipping fees: Charge for business and commercial haulers increases from $25 to 42.50 per ton.

Reconnection charges: Fee for reconnection due to nonpayment increases from $10 to $15 on weekdays and $20 to $25 on weekends.

Water connections: Range of fees for water connections increases from a low of $525 and a high of $1,375 to a low of $575 and a high of $1,450. The fee can go higher for connections larger than 2 inches in diameter.
