The Branch Group Inc., a Roanoke group of three contracting companies, has been ranked as the 251st largest U.S. contractor by Engineering News-Record, an industry publication.

The ranking was based on the value of contracts acquired in 1992, or $88.4 million for Branch.

Other Virginia contractors on the list of 400 firms include: Tidewater Construction Co., Norfolk, 115th with contracts of $200.2 million; Armada-Hoffler Construction Co., Chesapeake, 171st, $133.1 million; W.M. Jordan Co. Inc., Newport News, 222nd, $101.2 million; Ficon Corp., Woodbridge, 313th, $68.2 million; and Hitt Contracting Inc., Arlington, 357th, $56.5 million.
