Asbury, who graduated from Pulaski County High School, was a member of the National Honor Society and National Art Society. She was on the Mountain Academic Competition All-Around Team for three years and participated in the 1992 Virginia Girls' State.
She placed first in prose in forensic competition in her school and came in second in district competition. She has been a member of the marching, symphonic, jazz and pep bands and drama club, and on the literary magazine staff.
Asbury has been an active member of the youth group at Aldersgate United Methodist Church and has played the piano for the children's and adult choirs.
The other scholar is Mary Brewer of Bristol, Tenn. The scholarships are renewable based on student academic records in future years.
