WRECK ON 460 STALLS TRAFFIC FOR AN HOUR

A four-vehicle wreck on U.S. 460 near the Market Place mall tied up traffic for nearly an hour Friday morning.

Police said three people were injured, though not seriously. "We're still trying to piece it together," said Christiansburg Police Patrolman Derek Altizer.

Alpha Greenawalt of Christiansburg and her daughter, Jade Jackson Greenawalt, were headed north on Franklin Street toward Blacksburg in a station wagon, Altizer said. Greenawalt told police she had a green light as she went into the Peppers Ferry Road intersection.

Joy Jamison of Hardy, who had been heading south on Franklin Street, was making a left turn into the MarketPlace lot when she and Greenawalt collided.

Greenawalt's car spun and was hit by a Marshall Concrete truck carrying cinder blocks. Jamison's car struck another vehicle.

Jamison was treated and released at Montgomery Regional Hospital. Both Greenawalts appeared to have broken legs, Altizer said.

Altizer said Jamison's and Greenawalt's cars were totaled. He estimated damage to the other vehicles together at $2,500.
