As a member of the Roanoke Civic Center Commission and in particular one who supported the increase in the parking fee, I want to thank you for the words of support in your column the other day. There is often criticism of the events and offerings at the facility. If we are not willing to pay the price, there is no way we can afford to land the best events.
When the question of pro hockey leaving or staying in the Valley arose, the commission immediately took the position that it was imperative that any and all efforts be taken to assure that the Civic Center would be made available under any reasonable conditions to whomever the team owners might be.
My belief is that the new owners working with the facility and other interested persons can make this venture a success and help dispel forever the rumor that the Valley is not a good sports area. Critical will be the support of the newspaper in keeping the news of the team before fans.
