ELLIOTT DOMINATES FAY'S 150 FOR 1ST GRAND NATIONAL WIN

Bill Elliott scored his first-ever Busch Grand National victory on Saturday, dominating the Fay's 150 Saturday at Watkins Glen.

Elliott, a former Winston Cup champion from Dawsonville, Ga., led 47 of 62 laps of the 2.45-mile road course in the 150-mile event. It is the only road- course race of the season for NASCAR's Grand National division.

Elliott, driving a Ford, averaged 89.970 mph and finished 2.81 seconds ahead of Terry Labonte in a Chevrolet.

"This is a great boost," said Elliott, who has struggled this season in the Winston Cup series. "With the kind of season I've had, any kind of win helps.

"When we unloaded the car Thursday, we knew we'd have a good car for the race," he said. Irvan's Chevy started from the pole and led the first

seven laps before transmission problems sidelined him.
