AUTO RACING-NRVS DRIVER GETS DISQUALIFIED

Michael Ritch was disqualified from Saturday's Late Model Stock Car race at New River Valley Speedway in Radford because his car was too light.

Ritch had finished fifth in the 200-lap feature event in the Shelor Chevrolet 300, one lap behind race winner Johnny Rumley.

Post-race inspection early Sunday morning found Ritch's Ford Thunderbird weighed 10 pounds less than the required 3,100 pounds.

Jeff Agnew of Floyd was moved to fifth following the disqualification, the second of the season for the High Point, N.C., driver.

Tony Howell started from the pole and led the entire way in the 25-lap Mini Stock race late Saturday night. Robert Cox finished second.
