ROANOKE VALLEY ECONOMIC INDICATORS

The number of passengers and the amount of cargo are increasing at Roanoke Regional Airport.

For the year through May, airlines counted 125,198 people boarding planes compared to 117,747 for the same period last year, a jump of 6.33 percent. The airport loaded 5,540.23 tons of cargo, a jump of 8.71 percent from the 5,200.17 tons through May 1992.

In May, the airport had 30,304 boarding passengers, up 14.45 percent over 26,477 in April and up 7.15 percent over 28,282 in May last year.

May's 1,112.15 tons of cargo was down 3.85 percent from 1,156.68 in April but up 10.31 percent from 1,008.21 in May 1992.
