George Devorss was convicted May 11 of rape, four counts of aggravated sexual battery, four counts of sodomy and three counts of taking indecent liberties with children. His victims ranged in age from 7 to 17.
Devorss baby-sat some of the victims, police said. Runaways also used to visit his trailer. The extent of the case may never be uncovered, detectives said.
Devorss was charged in 1992 with 28 counts of sexual abuse. Some were dropped in a plea agreement.
Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Larry Willis asked that Devorss' age not be considered: "These offenses were so terrible that the stricter sentence was called for. If this amounted to a death sentence, so be it."
