Griffin, runner-up to Verona's Chip Glover in last week's VSGA Junior Match Play Championship, was one of 11 players to survive qualifying in the 16-17 age group. Rob Schneider was second with a 75, while Tim Bower of Floyd was third at 77.
Other qualifiers in the 16-17 age group from Southwest Virginia included Joe Surkamer III (78), Chad Wright (78), Benji Kitts (79), Brad Carter (79) and Josh Hayes (80).
Mike Gooden led qualifying in the 14-15 division with a 75. Mark Baldwin (79), Andrew Wagner (81), Jason Orlando (83) and Ray Harrell (85) won the other four spots.
Kemper Funkhouser led the 12-13 class with an 82. Brandon LaCroix (85), Kevin O'Connell (88) and Eric Hooke (88) captured the other three spots.
The VSGA Junior Championship will be held Aug. 2-4 at the Country Club of Petersburg.
