RIG DRIVER CHARGED IN CRASH WITH VAN

The driver of a tractor-trailer was charged Monday in connection with a wreck that killed three passengers on a church van June 20.

Bruce Don Green, 56, of Silver Springs, Fla., was charged with three counts of death by motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed, the state Highway Patrol said.

Thirteen people, including Green, were injured in the wreck, which occurred on Interstate 95 near Lumberton. The people in the van were members of the Now Faith Church of Deliverance in Montezuma, Ga.

The church members had planned to attend a national youth congress in Bedford, Va.

The van was struck from behind by the tractor-trailer. Both vehicles rolled off the highway and crashed into a pine thicket.

The truck's speed was estimated by witnesses to be 80 mph, a state trooper said.
