SMALLER SPACE STATION SURVIVES HOUSE VOTE

The House Monday reaffirmed its support for a space station and approved $2.1 billion for further development of a simpler, less expensive design that President Clinton has proposed.

An amendment to strip space station funding from an appropriations bill was defeated, 220-196. Last week, a bill authorizing the project passed, 216-215.
