OBIT DENNING, JOHN WALTER JR.
DENNING, John Walter Jr., 90, a resident of Chattanooga, Tenn., since 1937,
died Saturday, June 26, 1993, in a Chattanooga, Tenn. hospital. He was born
August 5, 1902, in Laurens, S.C. He was a member of the First Baptist Church
in Newberry, S.C. He was a 50-year member and a 32nd degree Mason in the Hill
City Lodge #603 A.F.&A.M. He was a member of the Alhambra Shrine and the
Chattanooga Scottish Rite Society. He retired from Denning Brothers, Inc. as
founder and president in 1967. He was a former employee of Caldwell-Sites in
Roanoke. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Walter Sr. and Emma
Pauline Marchbanks Denning. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Brickey
Denning; two daughters, Bettye Denning Traylor, Lincolnshire, Ill., Pauline
Denning Holley, Chattanooga, Tenn.; six grandchildren; four
great-granddaughters; two brothers, Paul Marchbanks Denning, Hixson, Tenn.,
David Berrie Denning, Asheville, N.C.; one nephew. Graveside services will be
held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Sherwood Cemetery in Salem with the Rev. J.
Landon Maddox officiating. Masonic cryptside services will be by Melrose
Masonic Lodge #139. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
