HOUSE PASSES BILL TO ESTABLISH BLACK MUSEUM

The House approved legislation Tuesday authorizing establishment of a National African American Museum within the Smithsonian Institution, the complex of museums on the National Mall.

The bill, which was approved on a voice vote without dissent, sets up a 23-member board of trustees for the museum and authorizes $5 million in the new budget year starting Oct. 1.

The Congressional Budget Office estimated that if Congress appropriated the full amount authorized in the bill, actual outlays for the facility would come to $3 million in fiscal 1994, $4 million in fiscal 1995 and $5 million in each of the succeeding years.
