GILES HIGHWAY CONTRACTS ANNOUNCED

Contracts for three Giles County highway projects were among almost $7.3 million in road improvement contracts awarded recently by the Commonwealth Transportation Board in the Virginia Department of Transportation's Salem transportation district:

A rock slide near Virginia 641 off U.S. 460 near Narrows will be repaired by Fort Chiswell Construction Corp. of Max Meadows under a $154,235 contract.

A retaining wall on U.S. 460 West, about one-tenth of a mile west of Virginia 643, will be repaired under a nearly $37,925 to C.R. Meader General Contractor of Pulaski.

In Pearisburg, Curve Road will be widened and paved with asphalt from Mountain Lake Avenue to Craig Avenue under a $503,623 contract to Fort Chiswell Construction Corp.

Work on the projects is expected to begin during July.
