OBIT-HAWKINS, HELENA TORIAN
HAWKINS, Helena Torian , 68, of Bedford, died Tuesday, June 29, 1993. She
was born in Campbell County on September 5, 1924, a daughter of the late
William Bryan Torian and Lorena Myrtle Bomar Torian. She was a graduate of
Brookville High School, Lynchburg General Hospital School of Nursing and had
received post graduate nurse's training in obstetrics. She was a member of
Bedford Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Clarence E. Hawkins;
two daughters, Cheryl Hawkins Hudgins, Fernandina Beach, Fla., Robbie Hawkins
Key, Bedford; three brothers, William Elmo Torian, George E. Torian and Robert
R. Torian and two sisters, Mrs. H. Raymond (Hazel) Glover and Mrs. Reginald D.
(Doris) Scruggs, all of Lynchburg; three grandchildren, Cory Austin Key,
William Jared Key and Amanda Leigh Key, all of Bedford; two stepgrandsons,
Michael Hudgins, Livermore, Calif., Trevor Hudgins, Napoleon, Ohio. Funeral
services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 1, 1993, at the Carder-Tharp
Funeral Chapel with Dr. Ron R. Blankenship and Rev. Paul Blevins officiating.
Private graveside services will follow in the Hawkins family cemetery.
Memorials may be made to either the American Cancer Society or the Bedford
Life Saving Crew. The family of Helena Hawkins would like to recognize a
special friend, Thelma Arthur. She has shown unyielding love, time, patience
and has been our inspiration through these troubled times. Thank you Thelma,
for being there. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at
the Carder-Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford.
