PEOPLE POWER IN MONTGOMERY

THIS IS both a bouquet and a reminder.

The bouquet is for Lynn Linkous, a dedicated and politically astute lady who in January initiated a petition in support of an elected School Board referendum in Montgomery County.

The reminder is that those citizens who have not registered to vote may still do so 29 days before the November election.

The intense interest generated by this issue points out the importance of every citizen registering his or her voice in the affairs of the county, state and nation, especially where the future of our children is concerned.

If successful statewide, Virginia will join the other 49 states who have chosen this method, thus ending the unhealthy segregation that has existed until this time. No longer apathetic, voter interest is at an all-time high - "Fired up," one person called it, "as never before."

Both Jefferson and Patrick Henry affirmed the truth that eternal vigilance is the price of liberty. People power is alive and well. Waking up time is at hand! RUBY A. ROBERTS CHRISTIANSBURG
