NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT CHRISTOPHER T. WADE, son of Dathea H. Wade of 1420 Grayson Ave. N.W., has completed training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Wade is a 1991 graduate of William Fleming High School.

\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS JONATHAN D. BOOTH, son of Brenda L. McDaniel of 2668 Stanford Drive, Salem, has reported for duty at Naval Security Group Activity, Fort Meade, Md.

Booth is a 1991 graduate of Glenvar High School.

\ NAVY SEAMAN DEMURA ST. WILLIAMS, son of Patricia A. Williams of 1715 Dunbar St. N.W., has reported for duty aboard the tank landing ship USS Spartanburg County stationed in Little Creek, Va.

St. Williams is a graduate of William Fleming High School.

\ MARINE CPL. TIMOTHY A. ANDERSON, son of Enid B. Anderson of 100 Kimball Ave., Salem, has received a Certificate of Commendation.

Anderson was cited for superior performance of duty while assigned with Brigade Service Support Group Five, 1st Force Service Support Group, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Anderson is a 1991 graduate of Salem High School.

\ MARINE PVT. JASON S. POFF, son of Ivan T. and Grace B. Poff of 3339 Kingswood Drive S.W., has completed training with Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

Poff is a 1992 graduate of Cave Spring High School.

\ COAST GUARD SEAMAN JONATHAN E. POWERS, son of Alan L. and Barbara A. Powers of 2302 Mount Pleasant Blvd. S.E., has been awarded the Coast Guard Humanitarian Service Medal while serving at Coast Guard Group, 7th Coast Guard District, Key West, Fla.

Powers, who received the award for extraordinary service, is a 1991 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT MICHAEL J. McSHERRY, son of Thomas O. and Margaret McSherry of 718 Mason Road, Vinton, has completed training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

McSherry is a 1992 graduate of William Byrd High School.

\ SECOND LT. BRIAN T. SNIDER, son of Dewey L. and Barbara B. Snider of Cloverdale, has received silver wings after graduation from pilot training at Reese Air Force Base, Lubbock, Texas.

Snider is a 1987 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School and a 1991 graduate of Virginia Military Institute.

\ NAVY AIRMAN RECRUIT RUSSELL D. HUGGETT, son of Diann M. Huggett of Roanoke, has returned from a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific and Persian Gulf aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, stationed in San Diego.

Some members of the Kitty Hawk unit participated in delivering food and medical supplies to key relief centers in Somalia. Huggett is a 1991 graduate of Salem High School.

\ AIRMAN PHILLIP S. RICHMOND, son of Phil and Gayle Richmond of 8174 Waterfall Drive, has completed Air Force basic training in San Antonio, Texas.

Richmond is studying to be a pharmacy assistant with the 382nd Medical Squadron at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas.

After he completes his course, Richmond, a 1990 graduate of Northside High School, will be stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.

\ DANIEL L. DOWDY, son of Bonnie M. Davis of 5811 Dogwood Ave., Salem, has been promoted to senior airman in the Air Force.

Dowdy, a mental health service specialist, is a 1988 graduate of Berean Christian Academy.

\ ARMY PFC. SHAWN C. LINKOUS, son of Sharon B. and M. Lee Linkous of 5459 Eveningwood Lane, has been sent to Somalia in support of Operation Restore Hope.

Linkous, a driver with the 22nd Infantry at Fort Drum, N.Y., is a 1990 graduate of Northside High School.

\ MELISSA D. MURRAY of Roanoke and DEXTER A. BRADBURY of Vinton have been promoted to staff sergeant with the 29th Infantry Division Band of the Virginia Army National Guard in Roanoke.

Murray works in the Roanoke Police Department. Bradbury works for Webb's Motors of Roanoke.

\ CHIEF PETTY OFFICER ROBERT C. COCHRAN, son of Sarah K. Cochran of 1750 Pexton Ave., Salem, has been promoted to his present rank while serving aboard the aircraft carrier Enterprise based in Norfolk.
