FORMER SALEM CITY MANAGER TAKES INTERIM POST IN HILLSVILLE

William Paxton, retired city manager of Salem, has become interim town manager of Hillsville.

He is filling a vacancy created at the end of May when the former town manager, Jack Gardin, resigned to become town manager in Lowell, N.C.

Paxton, who has held several other interim positions since retiring as Salem's city manager, said he expects to remain in the Hillsville job for about two months. Hillsville Town Council is accepting applications to fill the job permanently.

Since retiring in 1987, Paxton has been interim commissioner of revenue in Salem and interim city manager in Clifton Forge.
