N.C. IS LAST STATE TO OUTLAW MARITAL RAPE

North Carolina became the nation's last state to outlaw marital rape on Thursday, as the Senate voted 44-3 to repeal the exemption for husbands.

The law takes effect early next week.

Before giving the repeal final approval, senators rejected two attempts to set a time limit for wives to report rapes to police. - Associated Press
