AUTO RACING-AGNEW LOOKS TO DEFEND NRVS TITLE

Two-time defending champion Jeff Agnew will be seeking his first victory of the season tonight in the 100-lap Late Model Stock feature at New River Valley Speedway in Radford.

Agnew, who finished fifth in last week's 200-lap race at the NASCAR-sanctioned track, has been plagued by mechanical problems for most of the season.

Also on the schedule with the Marathon Oil-Jordan Oil-Goody's 200 are 35 laps for the Limited Sportsmen and 25 each for the Modified Mini, Mini and Pure Stock drivers.

Gates open at 2 p.m., with practice scheduled to start at 4 p.m. Qualifying begins at 6:15, with the first green flag at 8 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults and $1 for children 10 and younger.

Franklin County Speedway has two nights of stock car racing for the holiday weekend.

The Pepsi 600 will be comprised of a five-race (Late Model, Street, Mini, Pure, and Rookie) format tonight. On Sunday, a bonus night will be held featuring Modifieds and a 200-lap Any Car race.

The races start at 8 p.m. tonight and 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 each evening, and children under 10 are admitted free.
