MUTILATED MAN GETTING LOTS OF ATTENTION

News accounts about a Manassas man and the wife who severed his penis have prompted calls from national talk shows and journalists eager to interview the patient and others involved in the case.

The woman, a 24-year-old native of Ecuador, told police she severed her husband's penis while he slept June 23 because he had repeatedly raped her over a long period of time.

Dr. David Berman, the man's physician, said the patient might be released next week. In the meantime, he spends his time watching late-night talk shows, some of which have made jokes about him, friends and neighbors said.

"He says, `Hey, they mentioned me on Arsenio last night,' " one friend reported.
