WOMAN GETS AIR FORCE POST NOMINATION

Aeronautics professor Sheila E. Widnall will be nominated by President Clinton to be secretary of the Air Force. She would be the first woman to head one of the military services.

Announcing her nomination Friday, Clinton praised Widnall as "a woman of high achievement, a respected scientist, a skilled administrator and a dedicated citizen.

Widnall, 54, is associate provost at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she also is professor of aeronautics and astronautics.

Widnall is internationally known for her work in fluid dynamics. - Associated Press
