OBIT-THOMPSON, WILLARD

THOMPSON, Willard, of 1811 Longwood Avenue, Bedford, died Thursday, July 1, 1993, in Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He was the son of the late Richard and Vernie Thompson, and a deacon of the Otterville Baptist Church. He was an active deacon until his health began to fail him. He is survived by one daughter, Miss Verna Mae Thompson, Bedford; two sons, Jim and Willard Thompson, both of Washington, D.C.; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Vivian Curtis, Maryland, Mrs. Mary Strange, Lynchburg, Mrs. Dorothy Meadows, Forest, and Mrs. Ann Wright, Staunton; three stepsons, Clarence Younger, Big Island, Henry and William Younger, both of Lynchburg; two stepdaughters-in-law; three stepsons-in-law; 31 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Matres Thompson, and Miss Mary Lee Thompson, both of Bedford; three brothers, Van and Robert Thompson, both of Bedford, Thomas Thompson, Washington, D.C.; a host of other relatives and friends; four brothers-in-law; seven sisters-in-law. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Bedford Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the Otterville Baptist Church in Bedford County. The Rev. Don L. Mayes will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements by Bedford Funeral Home.
