JUNIOR GOLFERS SET FOR TOURNAMENT

Many of the top junior golfers in Southwest Virginia are entered in the third annual Andrew Haley Memorial Junior Golf Tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday at Lynwood Golf and Country Club in Martinsville.

The 36-hole stroke-play tournament includes three age divisions: 12-13, 14-15 and 16-18. Seventy-eight players from Virginia and surrounding states are entered.

The field includes Brad Lawrence of Bassett, who won the inaugural event in 1991. The 16-17 age division also includes Ryan Ketron of Roanoke, Timmy Bower of Floyd and Brad Carter of Ridgeway. Nick Varney of Salem and Mark Sweeney of Troutville are two of the favorites in the 14-15 division.

Troy Ferris of Norfolk won the overall title last year.

The tournament was organized in honor of Andrew Haley, a promising golfer who was killed in a car accident at age 24. - Staff report
