Lawhorn won the 104-lap Late Model Stock Car feature race at Franklin County Speedway in the second half of the Pepsi 600 on Sunday night before the largest crowd of the season.
The victory was his second in 23 hours and catapulted him into first place in the points race. Both weekend races were for double points.
Lawhorn won his third race of the year July 3 and his fourth on the Fourth of July. So how will he spend today? Naturally, he pleaded the fifth.
"I decided to start letting the racetrack come to me," Lawhorn said. "So far, it's working pretty well."
Lawhorn led from start to finish. Ronnie Newman claimed second and Todd Philpott took third. Tracy Owen finished fourth.
In other races Sunday night:
Phillip VanDerVeer finally overcame nemesis Kenny Wagner in the Street Stock division. VanDerVeer now has nine wins, but this was the first against Wagner, who got a flat tire. Freddie Goff was second and Leon Dalton placed third.
Tommy Dean won his fifth race of the season in Mini Stock competition, outrunning points leader Tommy Lynch (second) and Saturday night's winner John Hall (third).
Red Hartman was the Pure Stock winner. Points leader R.W. Lawhorn was second and Kenny McKinney third.
The Modified, Rookie and Any Car races had not been run at press time because the night's start was delayed approximately 90 minutes because of rain. - Staff report
