The foundation is a non-profit corporation which secures voluntary support and manages, invests and expends the funds solely for the benefit of the college.
\ JOE HORNE of Christiansburg is the first "T-TEN" graduate of the joint program between the college and Toyota's Technical Education Network. The program trains automotive technicians for employment in a Toyota dealership.
Ten nursing assistants specializing in geriatrics were graduated at recent ceremonies.
They are JOYCE LYTTON and RHONDA QUESENBERRY of Dublin; TEEKA MORRIS and SANDRA REAVES of Pulaski; JEANNY CARTER, CYNTHIA SUTHERLAND, MARIE TAYLOR and STEVEN MINNICK of Radford; CYNTHIA TASTER of Christiansburg; and ELIZABETH SPICER of Narrows.
Winners of the 1993 New River Valley Training Achievement Awards are HOLLINGSWORTH & VOSE - H&V - of Floyd and the VIRGINIA TECH PERSONNEL SERVICES DEPARTMENT in Blacksburg.
H&V was awarded top honors in the manufacturing category for innovative training and transition programs.
A GED training course, an eight-hour workshop in interpersonal skills, Total Quality Management methods, improved automation and assorted computer training programs are all part of the company's efforts to prepare employees for advancement.
Personnel Services Department of Virginia Tech received the first prize for Service-Education category for its training program "Working Together: Understanding and Valuing Diversity."
The program is comprised of 30 one-day workshops.
It has been offered to several college departments, and approximately 400 members of the physical plant department and 42 members of the campus police department have completed the training.
