TULTEX STAFFER DIES AFTER JOB ACCIDENT

A maintenance employee of Tultex Corp. in Martinsville died Sunday night at a Winston-Salem, N.C., hospital of injuries suffered in an accident at the plant Saturday.

Tultex said Clyde Adams Jr., 43, of Axton, was opening a steam valve in the finishing department when the valve ruptured. Adams was burned by escaping steam.

Billie Moore, health and safety manager for Tultex, said the accident is under investigation.

Chuck Davies, president of Tultex, said the company is "now focused on finding out what caused the accident and preventing this tragedy from occurring again."

Another employee who suffered minor injuries from the incident was treated at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County and released.
