COMPROMISE?

THANKS to New Republic magazine for sharing the following information which finally explains what has until now seemed, at least to some of us, hard to understand.

We refer to the proposed so-called compromise on the matter of gays in the military, according to which homosexuals could remain in the ranks but only if they do not ever divulge their sexual orientation. If they do, they would be drummed out, as they are now.

Here's the explanation, taken from a Defense Department memo:

``The [proposed] policy . . . retains the general principle that homosexuality is incompatible with military service, while accommodating the concerns of those who are able to serve within the unique constraints of military life.''

There - got it now?
