POLICE SAY KILLER FORGOT 18TH VICTIM

Admitted serial killer Joel Rifkin apparently killed 18 women, one more than he confessed to, police said Wednesday.

The 18th case involves Mary Katherine Williams, 30, the daughter of a Charlotte, N.C., dentist, whose body was found in Yorktown, N.Y., on Dec. 21. Police said they found one of Williams' credit cards in the house Rifkin shared with his mother and sister.

"So far he has been fairly accurate," said state police Capt. Walter Heesch. "He may have gotten confused and overlooked telling us about the one in Yorktown that made 18 victims."

Heesch said there was no indication the body count would grow further.
