OBIT JOHNSON, LILLIAN HASH

JOHNSON, Lillian Hash, 95, of 219 W. Westview Street, Narrows, died Thursday, July 8, 1993 at her home. Mrs. Johnson was born on August 2, 1897 in Bristol, Tenn. and was the daughter of the late Fields N. and Mary King Hash of a prominent King Family who was instrumental in the establishment of the King College in Bristol, Tenn. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed homemaking, reading, growing houseplants, crafts, making afghans, and she had traveled extensively throughout the United States. She shared this love of travel by always taking her grandchildren along. Her active association with the First Presbyterian Church in Narrows exceeds seven decades. Mrs. Johnson became a member of the church on July 11, 1915. She served many, many years as the Church Treasurer, she served on the Board of Deacons and at one time or another has served on just about every committee in the church. She was preceded in death by her husband, George William Johnson on September 7, 1958 and two sons Arnold M. Johnson on March 17, 1987 and Lewis King Johnson, when he was less than two years old. Mrs. Johnson is survived by a son, Lawrence G. Johnson, Douglas, Ariz.; two daughters, Miss Mary Josephine Johnson, Narrows, Virginia J. Walker, Athens, W.Va.; a sister, Louise H. Orr, Richmond; seven grandchildren, Carolyn W. Buckland, Gloria Hopkins, Basil Walker Jr., Barbara Ann Alvis, George M. Walker, Royal Johnson, Lion Johnson; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday 4 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Narrows with Rev. Harry Goodwin, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Narrows officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Narrows. The family will meet their friends at Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. The family suggest that those who are sending memorials, please consider the First Presbyterian Church, Memorial Boulevard, Narrows, Va. 24124 or the New River Valley Hospice, 1806 Price Fork Road, Blacksburg, Va. 24063.
