POST 3 WEST PITCHER THROWS ONE-HITTER

Jason Anderson struck out 15 on his way to a one-hitter as Roanoke Post 3 West crushed Giles Post 68 10-0 in an American Legion baseball game in Blacksburg on Saturday.

Anderson allowed a lead-off double in the first inning, then shut Giles down. He struck out 14 of the last 16 batters.

Anderson also had a strong performance at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run. Teammate Kelly Dampeer led Post 3 West (6-3) with four RBI, one home run and two runs.

At William Byrd, Al Holland Jr. smashed two homers as Roanoke Post 3 North slipped past Martinsville 11-10 to claim its ninth victory.

The teams traded the lead several times before Holland hit his second home run in the seventh inning to put Roanoke ahead for good. Martinsville (7-6) rallied in the ninth but stranded the tying runner.

Doug Mundy hit 4-for-5 with one home run, Shannon Gray hit one homer and scored four runs, Ben Taylor went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs and Brian Hawkins slammed a home run as Post 3 batters blasted Martinsville's pitchers.

Josh Salmon smashed a home run as Roanoke Post 3 South pounded Patrick County Post 105 10-4 in an American Legion baseball game at Stuart.

Michael Price struck out seven and walked one as he pitched a complete game for Post 3 South (2-6).
