FLEMING'S SINGLE IN 12TH WINS IT FOR BUCCANEERS

Carlton Fleming lined a two-out, run-scoring single in the top of the 12th inning Saturday night as Prince William edged Salem 9-8 in a Carolina League game at Salem Municipal Field.

Both starting pitchers - Salem's Doug Harrah and the Cannons' Bruce Prybylinski - gave up eight runs and both left in the fourth inning. The score remained tied until the 12th as three Prince William relievers held the Buccaneers hitless for the final 8 innings.

Fleming finished 4-for-5 with four RBI, and he hit the game-winner off of Kevin Rychel, the sixth Salem pitcher. Cannons catcher Scott Epps slugged his first professional home run, a three-run blast in the second inning.

Salem came back after trailing 4-0, 5-3 and 8-5.

Michael Brown and Trace Ragland hit back-to-back homers in the fourth to tie the score at 8.
