Olympic track star Florence Griffith Joyner will be sworn in Wednesday as a spokeswoman for the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.

She remembers striving as a youngster for achievement patches given by the council.

"I dreamed of doing more sit-ups than anyone else, more pullups, because I just wanted my patch," Joyner said in a recent interview. "That was my incentive. Every time I got one, I sewed it on my gym pants."

Joyner was the first American woman to win four medals at a single Olympics, earning three golds and a silver in 1988.
