"This was a way of . . . gaining greater assurance that I would be out of the way, out of the office and that I would not talk about this matter," said Thomas Julia, Dix's former chief of staff.
Dix, a Republican, was cleared last month by the Fairfax Board of Supervisors for using public money for an $8,600 severance payment to aide Jacquelyn Pace-Herron, who alleged he had sexually harassed her.
Julia told The Washington Post that he left in May partially because of how Dix handled the sexual harassment allegations, the newspaper reported Monday.
Dix has denied the sexual harassment allegations and said the payment to Julia was not his idea. - Associated Press
