FATHER FACES CHARGES FOR LEAVING CHILD IN CAR

Fairfax County, Va., police have charged a Falls Church, Va., man with child neglect after he allegedly left his 2-year-old daughter in a parked car for more than a half-hour in sweltering heat over the weekend.

While Joseph Park ran errands at the Barcroft Shopping Center in Fairfax, his daughter, Rachel, remained in the back seat of the car Saturday afternoon, police said. That day's temperature climbed to 100 degrees.

Fairfax Officer Terri Doyle, who was patroling the shopping center, said a man who was sitting in his own car in the parking lot flagged her down about 4:30 p.m. and reported that a toddler had been left in a parked car for more than 35 minutes.

Although one of the car's windows was open slightly, Doyle said the temperature in the vehicle, which was parked in the sun, reached about 115 degrees. - The Washington Post
