CONSTRUCTION OF PRISON BEGINS IN CULPEPER

Ground was broken Monday for construction of an 825-bed medium-security prison in Culpeper County.

John McCluskey, the Department of Corrections' chief deputy director, said construction will take about 14 months, depending on the weather.

Lott Constructors Inc. of McLean was awarded the $15.5 million contract. The contract does not include the prison's water and sewer system.

The General Assembly has allocated $28.1 million for the entire project. - Associated Press
