62-YEAR-OLD DIES AFTER FALL FROM BOAT

A 62-year-old man died Monday while boating on the New River.

Montgomery County Sheriff Ken Phipps said the man, whose identification has not been released, fell from a fishing boat about 12:45 p.m.

"We don't know whether he fell accidently or had a heart attack or what the problem was," Phipps said. "We are going to request an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death."

Phipps said the boat - powered by an electric motor - continued to circle with a female passenger aboard. The boat finally came into a bank, where several bystanders helped the woman ashore.

One bystander swam out into the river and pulled the man ashore, Phipps said.

There were life jackets in the boat, Phipps said, but neither the man nor the woman was wearing one.
