AD MERGER TO CREATE POWERHOUSE

Two of Roanoke's oldest and largest advertising agencies - Poindexter Associates and Bolt Inc. - said Tuesday they will merge "to combine complementary strengths."

The new company, which will open for business on Monday, will be known as Poindexter-Bolt Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations.

Principals of the new agency will be Dale Poindexter, chairman; Peter Ostaseski, president; Rod Carter, executive vice president; and Tom Kegley, vice president and creative director. All but Poindexter come from Bolt.

Their only employee will be the business manager, Rebecca Farmer.

Carter said Bolt has been streamlining in the past few years, reducing the staff from 40 people while sales increased 50 percent. The owners no longer have even a secretary. Carter said Poindexter has been doing the same thing.

They will operate from offices at 301-B McClanahan St. S.W., the facility now used by Poindexter.

Bolt, founded through a predecessor firm in 1973, has developed considerable strength in technical, industrial and business-to-business advertising, and corporate video and audio-visual fields. It offers experience in technical writing, marketing communications and public relations. Its clients include ABB Process Analytics, NSW Corp. and Country Cookin' restaurants.

Poindexter's strengths are in mass media areas such as financial, retail and automotive advertising.

Poindexter, founded in 1972, offers experience in mass media planning, placement and analysis, as well as advertising production for mass media. Its clients include Gentlemen of Olds, a cooperative of regional Arby's restaurants and Shenandoah Pride dairy.
