KULWICKI CRASH PROBE CONTINUES

Federal investigators still are trying to determine the cause of the airplane crash in April that killed NASCAR champion Alan Kulwicki, an official said Tuesday.

"We're looking at the engines and weather conditions," said Brent Bahler, a National Transportation Safety Board spokesman in Washington. "We've drawn no conclusions."

A report on the crash is not expected until close to the end of the year, he said.

Kulwicki, 38, was among four people killed April 1 when a twin-engine Fairchild Merlin 300 crashed while approaching Tri-City Regional Airport in Blountville.

The 1992 Winston Cup champion was on his way from a promotional appearance in Knoxville to the Bristol International Raceway.
