The religious zealot known to sports fans as "Rainbow Man" was sentenced to three life prison terms for holding a maid hostage and making terrorist threats during an airport hotel standoff.

Rollen Frederick Stewart, 48, was described as a "David Koresh waiting to happen" by deputy district attorney Sally Lipscomb, referring to the Branch Davidian leader killed with his followers in the Waco, Texas, standoff.

Stewart was known nationwide for positioning himself in key camera positions at sporting events wearing a frizzy, multicolored wig and waving a sign reading "John 3:16," a biblical reference.

Stewart held a maid hostage in a hotel room near Los Angeles International Airport for nearly nine hours before a SWAT team captured him, authorities said. The maid locked herself in the bathroom and was unharmed.
