MAN ADMITS MOLESTING 2, FACES 19 YEARS

A man suspected in the disappearance of a Brentwood, Md., boy pleaded guilty Tuesday to molesting two of the boy's friends.

James Kowalski, 53, of Winchester pleaded guilty to charges of forcible sodomy and taking indecent liberties with a minor.

Under the plea agreement, Kowalski faces up to 19 years for the two convictions and must pay for the boys' counseling. He is to be sentenced Aug. 9.

"I think he saw the handwriting on the wall," Winchester Commonwealth's Attorney Paul Thompson said. "We were able to gather that evidence together quickly and lay it out in black and white."

The boys, 11 and 13, live in the same neighborhood as the missing boy, 10-year-old George Burdynski Jr., who was last seen May 24.

Police said Kowalski is a suspect in the disappearance, but he has not been charged.

The sexual abuse charges against Kowalski grew out of the investigation into Burdynski's disappearance.

Kowalski had lived in the Brentwood neighborhood near Burdynski and the other boys before moving to Winchester this spring.
