Shawn Lattanzi, who has been working as a programmer at Virginia Tech, will teach computer instruction and three calculus classes. She has a graduate degree in education and computer science.
Lauri Goater-Cox, who has been teaching biology, anatomy and microbiology at Wytheville and New River community colleges, will teach college biology courses for high school juniors and seniors attending the Governor's School. She will also teach senior seminar and junior research classes.
Lattanzi fills an existing position. Goater-Cox fills a new position, approved because of the school's growing enrollment, which will be at its cap of 96 next year.
Fifty-three of the incoming students will be juniors, and the rest returning seniors from among nine participating localities in the school's service region. The juniors will be taking a trip to a research station at Wallops Island Aug. 11-14 to begin some science projects.
The board re-elected Douglas Phillips of Floyd County as its chairman and Wythe County Superintendent James Vaught as its superintendent-in-charge for another year. Pulaski County will continue as its fiscal agent.
