NAVY PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS BRADLEY A. BLANKENSHIP, son of Charlotte L. Blankenship of 321 10th St., Vinton, and Stephen P. Blankenship of Troutville, has left Norfolk aboard the USS Simon Lake on the way to change homeports from Holy Loch, Scotland, to La Maddalena, Italy.

Blankenship is a 1990 graduate of Salem High School.

\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT RAYMOND A. MOYER, son of Shirley J. Craddock of 2309 Yeager Ave. N.E. and Raymond A. Moyer of 200 Mountain Meadow Drive, Vinton, has completed recruit training at Great Lakes, Ill.

Moyer is a 1992 graduate William Fleming High School.

\ CPL. ZACHARY C. BOWER, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Bower of Blue Ridge, has been assigned for six months to the Persian Gulf with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based at Camp Lejeune, N.C., as part of the USS Wasp Amphibious Ready Group.

Bower is a 1990 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.

\ PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS GREGORY L. GRAY, son of Donald L. and Melanie J. Gray of Goodview, has reported for duty at Naval Air Station, San Diego.

Gray is a 1988 graduate of William Byrd High School.

\ SGT. MAJ. JAMES R. BRYANT of 403 Howard Drive, Salem, has been promoted to his present rank while serving with 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, 4th Marine Division in Lynchburg.

Bryant is a 1962 graduate of Northside High School.

\ PETTY OFFICER 1ST CLASS MORGAN M. FOSTER, son of Ray M. and Norreda J. Foster of Blue Ridge, has been designated a master training specialist.

He is assigned to Submarine Training Facility at the Norfolk Naval Station, and is a 1983 graduate of Staunton River High School.

\ HOSPITALMAN JAMES R. DOOLEY, son of Donna T. Jacobs of 202 Laurel Hill Drive, has reported for duty at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Rota, Spain.

Dooley is a 1988 graduate of William Byrd High School.

\ SPEC. GREGORY D. HODGES, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold V. Cogdill of 550 Fidelity Road, completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C.

He took advanced training as an aviation-aero scout observer at Fort Rucker, Ala. While at Fort Rucker, he completed a school for air assault training. He is serving a 12-month tour in Korea.

Hodges is a 1986 graduate of Patrick Henry High School and a 1992 graduate of Emory & Henry College.

\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT CARL L. FISHER, son of Mark A. and Libby S. Anderson of Vinton, recently completed basic training in San Diego.

He is a 1991 graduate of Staunton River High School.

\ MELISSA D. MURRAY of Roanoke and DEXTER A. BRADBURY of Vinton have been promoted to staff sergeant with the 29th Infantry Division Band of the Virginia Army National Guard in Roanoke.

Murray works in the Roanoke Police Department. Bradbury works for Webb's Motors of Roanoke.

\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT MICHAEL J. McSHERRY, son of Thomas O. and Margaret McSherry of 718 Mason Road, Vinton, has completed training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

McSherry is a 1992 graduate of William Byrd High School.
