WESTERN VIRGINIANS PICKED FOR BOARDS

Beverly Fitzpatrick Jr., Roanoke vice mayor and City Council member, was selected by Gov. Douglas Wilder to serve on the Governor's Advisory Commission on the Revitalization of Virginia's Urban Areas.

The governor charged the commission to advise him regarding the following areas: crime reduction; making known policies and procedures to alleviate welfare/government subsidy dependency; and modification of current health-care approaches.

The commission will also address the re-establishment and revitalization of economic and social foundations of urban life as well as approaches to increase educational and employment opportunities for adults and youth in the central cities.

Wilder also selected the following area people to serve on other commissions:

Robert A. Williams, Martinsville, Commonwealth Transportation Board; Thomas P. Dean, Clifton Forge, Robert G. Crockett, Janet D. Nelson and Patrick H. Winston Jr., Covington, Alleghany-Highlands Economic Development Authority.
