MORE IMPROVEMENT TO START ON U.S. 58

The Commonwealth Transportation Board has awarded a $7.6 million contract to widen another section of U.S. 58 in Lee County as the road is slowly reconstructed across the bottom of Virginia.

Ground was broken in May on a $7.9 million project to four-lane the first 3.2 miles. The new project will cover 4.2 miles. It will start next month and is scheduled for completion in the summer of 1995.

Four other U.S. 58 projects in Lee County are scheduled to be started within the next year and a half. The total estimated cost for all six will be $60.5 million.
