GOLF-DONNA ANDREWS, ROOKIE AMONG LPGA LEADERS

Donna Andrews of Lynchburg, Va., and Karen Lunn, a 27-year-old rookie on the LPGA Tour, shot 3-under-par 68s and shared the first-round lead with two others at the $600,000 JAL Big Apple Classic in New Rochelle, N.Y.

Jane Geddes and Lisa Miller joined Lunn and Andrews, who is winless in four years on the tour.

"Today is the best I've played in a long while," said Lunn, an Australian who lives in London. "My game seems to be falling into place. The wind was very difficult."

Nancy White, Lori Garbacz, Tammie Green, Vicki Fergon and Hiromi Kobayashi of Japan are at 69.

"The back nine was an adventure," Andrews said. "The wind was swirling a lot out there, and that gave me trouble picking the right club. If you shoot under par in all four rounds here, you will be in good shape."
